So, interested in taking drumset and/or percussion lessons? excellent!
You will need a copy of a book by George Lawrence Stone called "Stick Control".
You will also need your own metronome, practice pad and/or snare drum.
Drumset students should have access to a drumset....if you do not...

There are ideally three ways we can approach a personalized lesson plan:
1. Fun and informal. This really just means we are going to proceed at your own pace and have a lot of fun learning to play drums. This is probably going to be the best idea for younger and more beginning students.
2. Goal specific. This sort of lesson plan means you are coming in with a specific need to increase your expertise in some area, qualify for an honors organization, or maybe compete in a competition of some sort. We will decide together a logical way to acheive your goal, using quantifiable steps to determine your progress. (for instance, if you have to get a certain rudimental solo to a specific bpm, we increase it little by little so you do not get overwhelmed) Maybe you just want to learn how to improvise, either as a solo performer, or in a group.
3. Advanced drumset. I push you to do your absolute best..pretty self-explanatory.
Hand drumming-wise, I can provide you with the essential tools and techniques to get you started with drum circles, as an auxiliary percussionist, or just to have fun.
My current charge for a 30 minute session is $15.00. I would prefer to arrange a regularly scheduled lesson plan, either once a week or once every two weeks.
Stay tuned to this site, as I am in the process of starting a Grinnell Drummer's Collective. This will be a performing group based at the college, with community members encouraged to attend as well. During my time in Grinnell, I can't tell you how many people I have met that tell me "I used to play", or "I can't read music very well", but they would all love a chance to play in some sort of organized setting again. This would be that group.
My point is, it's all about you. I love the drums, and want to pass that on to you.
